Asalaamualiakum warahmatullah, peace be upon those who seek guidance
I was supposed to write this ages ago but for some reason delayed it but recently I was asked to write a post on this so lemme do so just before I duck out from the forums.
This is for all those brothers and sisters who attend Islamic lectures, whether it be at QM isoc, any old uni, masaajid or timbuktoo. What we should do first and foremost is purify our intention and before we go, think why are we even going to this? Many people these days might go either for the sake of it, cos its routine or because its the cool thing to do or because their friends go or whatever. But know that we can get rewarded for even just sitting in that lecture even if we dont listen to a word, if we rectify our intention to go for the sake of Allah, to gain knowledge, to be reminded or simply even to sit in a gathering with remembers Allah and gain the barakah in that.
The Prophet SAW said: every action is but by intention.
These halaqahs/circles/whatever you wanna call them are gatherings of knowldge and a gathering where Allah SWT is mentioned. There is much benefit in gaining knowldge, so we should go in order to gain the knowledge and not just gain the knowledge but also implement it. Allah SWT says in Surah Mujadilah, verse 11: Allah will exalt those who believe among you, and those who have knowledge, to high ranks.
Also even if you dont like the speaker, or like the topic, just going with the sole intention to sit in a gathering that remmebers Allah is still a noble intention. In a long hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurairah, paraphrased, the Messenger of Allah SAW said: the angels roam around in search of people mentioning Allahs name and when there is a gathering which mentions the name of Allah [such as any islamic talk], they descend upon it and listen to it and cover it with their wings reaching the lowest heaven. Then they go to Allah SWT who already knows everything but asks, what are my slaves [i.e us] doing? And the angels reply: they were glorifying you, praising you, exalting you.
subhan'Allah imagine that, the angels are telling our Lord, our creator, that we are praising him, azaa wajal. And then the hadeeth goes on to say, that they havnt seen me, nor have then seen heaven/hell and if they were to, they would be even better and then Allah SWT tells them to bear witness that he has FORGIVEN THEM.
Even if you running late and there is 20 seconds left of the talk and you think no point now.... quick, hurry and get in there cos check this. In the same hadeeth, later on, the angels mention there was one who just happened to be there, he fell through the roof or whatever but Allah SWT says he is also forgiven. Allahu akbar *smiles*
